Department of Philosophy

The Department was established in 1974 to offer Philosophy as an optional subject in B.A. (Pass) and as a subsidiary subject for Hindi (Hons.). In 1995, the college started B.A. (Hons) in Philosophy and joined the group of few selected colleges of Delhi University to offer this course.

 Presently, the Department offers B.A. (Hons) in Philosophy and teaches papers on Logic, Ethics, Western Philosophy, Greek Philosophy, Indian Philosophy, Social and Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, Feminism, Philosophy of mind, etc. The Department also teaches (B.A. Prog.) where it offers Logic, Ethics, Greek Philosophy, Indian Philosophy, Western Philosophy.  It also offers Generic Elective Course in ‘Ethics in Public Domain’, ‘Formal Logic’ and ‘Feminism’ to students of other Hons. Courses. The department also offers Skill Enhancement Courses in ‘Critical thinking’ for all Hons. students and ‘Ethical decision making’ for B.A.(Prog.) students. The Department teaches in both English medium and Hindi medium.

 The Department also has a Philosophy Association. The membership is compulsory for Hons. students and optional for B.A. (Prog) students. The Association conducts various activities like debates, seminars, workshops, essay competitions from time to time. Eminent academicians are also invited to deliver lectures to students.

The department informs students about all the job opportunities and research programs available to them post their Bachelor's degree.

 The Department has six Faculty positions. Dr. Hansi Bisht is the incharge of the Department.
