Department of English

The Department of English believes in student centred pedagogy. A wide range of activities outside the class supplements classroom teaching. We have an active ‘study circle’ that conducts academic activities such as student seminars, lecture series by distinguished academics and study sessions where faculty and students get together for brainstorming sessions on a wide range of topics. The “study circle “ conducts literary events from time to time which include story ending competition, Ekphrasis, and literary quiz etc. We have a Book discussion club where books outside the canon and curriculum are read and discussed. We also have a movie club that organises films sometimes related to texts taught in class or any other that might interest students. Students bring out a monthly newsletter, “Conscientia”. While the student co-ordinators of all these clubs are mostly from the Department of English, we encourage students of all disciplines to participate in our literary events.

The faculty is diverse with a wide range of interests and specialisations. We have theatre practitioners, translators and serious researchers but what we most pride ourselves on is our ability to relate to our students and help them bring out the best in themselves. Students who undertake research-based projects are intensively supervised and encouraged to present papers at seminars organised by the different colleges of Delhi University.
