Basic Details:

The Department of Applied Psychology was established in the year 2006, offering honours course in the college. Being one of the youngest departments of the college, it has been nurtured and groomed like a sapling which is now thriving along with other courses offered by the college. The vision of the department is “To develop innovative and compassionate individuals who would contribute meaningfully to the society. To create an environment which fosters critical thinking and cultural sensitivity, to make students become competent and adaptable professionals prepared to excel in diverse global opportunities\". The mission is to -Cultivate analytical and creative thinking through experiential learning, collaborative projects and practicals.-Encourage curiosity and innovation by supporting research initiatives, providing resources and encouraging interdisciplinary approaches to address local and global challenges.-Focus on the emotional, social, physical, and intellectual growth of students, fostering environment that promotes compassion, empathy and integrity.-Encouraging active participation in community outreach programs, making positive societal impact. The department offers the students opportunities to probe into human phenomenon, and sensitize them towards the various issues of the society, and help them not only in becoming professional psychologist but responsible and sensitive individuals who respect and nurture human values and diversity.The undergraduate program of Applied psychology has been designed in such a way that it provides both theoretical as well as practical knowledge in various sub-fields of psychology. All these papers are supplemented with practicum papers for training students in different forms of assessment and research. To enhance teaching and learning process, various pedagogical tools are used such as case studies, lectures, audio-visual aids, role-plays, projects, in-house paper presentations, seminars, talks by eminent speakers, movie screenings, and workshops etc. Along with studies, various activities and events are held to make learning an enjoyable and engaging experience. Mental Health Day has been organized and observed by the department every year. Important events such as International Women’s day, Suicide Prevention day, International Day of Peace, Brain awareness week etc is observed through various talks given by experts and through different activities organized for students. The Department organized a two -day UGC sponsored National Seminar on “Psychology of National Integration” and UGC sponsored International Conference - “In dialogue with Mahatma Gandhi”. Counselling Helpline was started during the pandemic to provide psychological assistance to students. The students also go for industrial visits, field visits. visit to old age homes etc, for increased exposure and learning. Hands on training on SPSS and Neurofeedback and Biofeedback was also conducted.The department has been publishing an annual e-magazine, Psychovision, to highlight the skills and talents of our bright and talented students. In addition, Psychspire, the society of the Department of Applied Psychology, started the Psytivity blog.The departmental official website ‘PSYCHSPIRE’ was introduced to give a direction to the thoughts and platform for the blog and the e-magazine.

The courses offered by the Department include B.A.Honours, Generic Elective, VAC and SEC courses.
