Basic Details:

The aim of the Department of Economics is to foster a community of young women who are intellectually curious and financially literate, equipped with a deep understanding of economic principles and analytical skills. The Department works to inspire academic excellence, critical thinking, and ethical leadership, preparing them to shape economic policy, drive innovation, and lead with confidence in diverse global contexts.The Honors course requires a good deal of mathematical aptitude and includes papers on Mathematical Economics, Statistics and Econometrics. The analytical tools the students learn in the Honors courses enable them to analyze issues in Environmental Economics, Health Economics, and International Trade. The medium of instruction is English for Honors courses, though bilingual teaching is often practiced for a better understanding of the subject. The Economics Association of the department offers a platform to the students, under the guidance of a faculty member, to organize co-curricular activities like debates, quizzes, discussions etc. The skills acquired in the courses we offer are highly valued in the job market and many of our students have successfully built their careers in banking, software companies, NGOs and teaching in schools and colleges. In the last few years, some of our students have secured admissions in post graduate courses in some of the prestigious Indian and foreign universities. Recently, department organized three days National Workshop on R under the aegis of IQAC.\r\nThe Department of Economics is one of the oldest departments of the college and was established in 1969. At present the department offers the following courses: B.A. Honours, Economics in B.A. Program, and Generic Elective courses for B.A. Honours in subjects other than Economics. The core papers in all these courses cover topics in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, with focus on understanding consumer behavior, producer behavior, money creation, determination of prices, rate of interest etc. In addition, these courses also expose students to Indian economic experience in the areas of growth, employment, external sector balance, government taxation and expenditure policy.

The B.A. (Hons) Economics program establishes a strong foundation for advanced concepts in the field of Economics. It equips students with a logical framework for modeling and interpreting the behavior and interactions of households, firms, and government institutions. Aligning with global standards, the program offers training comparable to that of top universities worldwide. The curriculum includes elective courses with contemporary relevance, allowing students flexibility in preparing for careers in academia, law, management, journalism, government, and other fields.
