Basic Details:
The Department of Environmental Studies was established in the year 2014. As a compulsory core module, a paper on Environmental Studies was started in University of Delhi at undergraduate level. Every student in the Ist year of her study reads this paper. This paper aims to educate the youth and to create awareness among students and society.The paper focuses on various environmental issues such as ecosystem, biodiversity, natural resources, pollution, and other social issues of environment with strategies for conservation of soil, forest, energy and wildlife. The department, since its establishment, has conducted a tree census of the college campus, and has installed solar street lights to make the student aware about the surrounding environment. The department all throughout the year is involved in conducting inter-college quizzes, rangoli-making competitions, slogan writing and poster making competitions. The department is also engaged in disseminating environment education and awareness through lectures, screening of documentary movies as classroom activity, conduction of field trips to Yamuna and Aravalli Biodiversity Park and The Energy Research Institute (TERI) and other important places of environment interest. The department has an Eco Club which is also actively involved in student-oriented programmes.
