Basic Details:

The Music Department of the college started with Dr.Sudha Mathur, disciple of eminent classical vocalist Prof. Sumati Mutatkar. Being the first appointee of the department, she had the vision of students learning and passing on this invaluable “amaanat” of our ancestors to the next generation of budding musician. Through her persistent and untiring efforts, her vision bore fruit in 1973 and department started with a few students of B.A Programme in Hindustani Music. The journey continued and instrumental section was also inducted in 1980. Since then, the department is involved in passing on the inherited knowledge to the students.
After going through the meticulous training, our students have joined various eductaion sectors to further deepen their understanding and spread the knowdelge of indian classical music.
Beside classroom teaching,music department is promoting the classical music among youth and familiarise people with the great legacy of Indian classical music through Sangeetika – the music society. On various occasions like orientation day, independence day, republic day, annual day etc., the students of music department present saraswati vandana, patriotic songs, sitar orchestra, folk songs etc. Apart from these performances, the music department has also organised Performancees, workshops and lecture demosntrations by eminent artists of India.Also organised education field Trips for the students.
The music department is always present in all the college events with its aesthetic performances. Not just college, our students also got the opportunity to perform in various events of Delhi University and many other prestigious platforms. There are only three colleges in Delhi University where musical instrument Sitar is taught as a subject, and our college is one of them. The music department of our college is the biggest among all the colleges of Delhi University.
