Basic Details:
The Department of Physical Education and Sports was established in the year 1969. In 1969, Ms. Kiran Boura was appointed Head of the Department, followed by Ms. Kamlesh Nagarat in 1971-72. Ms. Kiran Nagarat worked in the department from 1972-1976 and Ms. Om Pati Chaudhary worked in the department from 1973-2016. Both lecturers worked so hard for the department. Ms. Manjeet Madan joined the department in the year 1976 and served till 2017 and had a successful journey with Ms. Om Pati Choudhary.
Now Dr. Kavita Vats (2016-continue) and Dr. Kumari Seema (2018-continue) are working as Assistant Professors in the department.
Our eminent players have participated at International, National and All India University level and won a lot of medals for the College. The following students represented the college at International level. In 2003-04, Ms. Poonam Gulia a Kabaddi player played Kabaddi and Basketball at International level. In 2004-05, Ms. Lalita Sharma a cricketer who played cricket, karate, handball and football at National level and played International Pear Festival Basketball in South Korea is now working in Railways. In the year 2008, Suman, Krishna, Annu and Meena Kabaddi players played at International level and won gold medals for the country. Now they are working in railways. In the year 2018, Shivani Hockey player played 1st Women’s Asia-Oceania Floorball Cup.
The Department has many outstanding alumni working in government sectors, Ms. Anju in Railways, Ms. Bharti in Delhi Police, Ms. Krishna Dabas in Railways, Ms. Shashi NIS Coach (Kabaddi), Ms. Meena Golden in Haryana Police, Ms. Gitesh in Delhi Police, Ms. Anshu Physical Education Teacher, Ms. Rakhi in Delhi Police, Ms. Shashi Physical Education Teacher, Ms. Sonia Shokeen in Haryana Police, Ms. Komal and Ms. Sheetal in SSSB.
The Department of Physical Education and Sports is constantly engaged in preparing the students to showcase their talent and hard work and earn distinction in sports at college, university, state, national even international level.
The department also organizes Delhi University Inter-College Tournament and Admission Trial for Undergraduate Programme.
The Department of Physical Education and Sports provides opportunities for all students of the college to engage in some form of physical activity such as: yoga, aerobics, physical exercise and intramural competitions. The department also gives the opportunity to join college team of various games if they are able to pass fitness tests prepared by coaches. These types of departmental activities help the students to utilize their energy in a creative manner and help in their all-round development. This also helps them become physically and mentally strong.
The Department works on some important practices towards improving the performance of its players at international, national and university level. We give them freedom and opportunities to perform at different levels. The department provides complete training support to the players by International and National level coaches for different games and fitness programme, so that these players can perform better in all types of tournaments. As a result of this practice, every year the college gets positions and medals in various tournaments at different levels.
The department has a sports laboratory but it is mostly in the open. We have the following fields, courts such as Hockey Field, Softball Court, Baseball Court, Basketball Court, Tennis Court, Volleyball Court, Handball ground, Kho-Kho Ground, Kabaddi Ground and Closed Gym & Open Gym with Instructor.

The Department teaches General Elective, VAC, SEC to Honors and Program students and Physical Education to B.El.Ed & B.Ed students. This subject improve their knowledge about physical education, sports and also improves their health and well-being in daily life. Through this Subject we always provide them the opportunity to develop interest in their favorite sports on the field. We also conduct recreational games in the field during practical sessions which improves their confidence, coordination, agility and leadership quality.
Apart from this, the Department organizes Annual Sports Day for all, International Yoga Day every year. The department also organizes seminars and workshops from time to time.
