Debate on the Topic “The house believes that India is safe for Women”

The Debating Society of SPM College organized a debate on the topic, "In the opinion of the House - India is safe for Women." Participants were required to present their views either in favor or against the motion, with 4+1 minutes allocated to each speaker. Most students spoke confidently against the topic, expressing the opinion that India is not safe for women. The participants were evaluated by Mr. Anurag Singh, Ms. Shivani, and Ms. Charu Goel, based on content selection, language proficiency, and presentation style. A list of top-performing students was compiled to facilitate their participation in upcoming inter-university debates. The event was supported by Ms. Anita Gupta (Convenor), Dr. Chayanika Uniyal (Co-Convenor), and Dr. Sonu Kumar Gupta (Technical Support).
Will development of Artificial intelligence help Humanity.

Debating Society organized an audition for the students of all years through Google Meet Platform on 30th January 2021 from 11 am onwards. The topic was "Will development of Artificial intelligence help Humanity”.
The event was started by Welcome Address. It was given by Dr. Shagun Agarwal
(Convenor of the Competition). She welcomed all the participants, and the Judges were
Dr. Shagun Agarwal and Chetna Gupta. Event was in bilingual mode. Registration was
done by Google form. The aim of audition was to recruit talented and astonishing
students in our society. In the end, result of audition was announced. Vote of Thanks
was given by Chetna Gupta (Teacher Coordinator of the Competition). The technical
support was also given by her.
Mental Well- Being and the covid crises: Drawing insights from the Mahatma” Nature of activity: Webinar

The Webinar was organized by the Debating Society on the topic “Mental
Well- Being and the covid crises: Drawing insights from the Mahatma” on 19 th November,
2020. Speaker of the webinar was Prof. Bindu Puri (Chairperson, Centre for Philosophy,
SSS, JNU). Total registration entries of participants were 185. The event commenced at
11.30 am with the welcome address which was given by Chetna Gupta (Teacher
Coordinator). She threw some lights on the relevance of the topic.
Prof. Bindu Puri delivered her lecture and emphasized on the central Gandhian
concepts which are relevant to mental well-being during present scenario. The event ended
with vote of thanks which was given by Dr. Shagun Agarwal (Convenor of the event).
Outcomes: Good discussions between Speaker and participants, Registrations and Feedback
forms were filled.
TITLE: WORKSHOP WITH GUEST LECTURER

Prof. Satyamurti from School of Sanskrit and Indic Studies, JNU was invited to speak on the
topic: “Bharat ki Shastriya Vad Vidhi”. He spoke at length about the art of Shastrartha or
debate in Sanskrit and how it evolved in its present form. He also spoke on every aspect of
debate from selecting the topic, to preparing the argument and delivering the judgement.
Besides the selected candidates a lot of other students also attended and enjoyed the lecture. The lecture was attended by 26 students of the debate society of SPMC.
Auditions for students to join the debate society

The debating society held auditions on 7th Aug 2019 to select interested and capable
students for future competitions and workshop etc. The topic for audition was decided by the
four-member committee comprising
(1) Dr. Shagun Aggarwal (Convener)
(2) Dr. Gagandeep Bajaj (Co-convener)
(3) Pooja Sharma (Member)
(4) Chetna Gupta (Member)
The topic for audition was “Attendance should be mandatory for higher education”. Posters
were put up all over the college and 61 students from various departments participated out of
which 26 students were selected. The committee organised a lecture for the benefit of these
selected students. The auditions had started at 11:30AM and were concluded by 1PM.
