Food Technology

Basic Details:

The Department of Food Technology was established at S.P.M. College in 1985.Students of this Department are encouraged to participate in various intra and inter college activities like poster making, debates, quiz, new product development and cookery competitions. During various Seminars and Workshops they get an opportunity to learn about new areas of development in the field of Food Technology and get a chance to interact with experts from industry as well as academics. Department has a well-equipped Laboratory and a commercial oven cum dehydrator. Students prepare bakery products, preserves and dehydrated products in the Laboratory and organize exhibition cum sale of these products. This helps them to understand the finer details of bulk production, packaging, costing and selling.

Course Details:

The Department of Food Technology offers BA(Prog) with Food Technology as a major paper. Aim of this paper is to provide additional skills and self-employment opportunities to students who want to pursue B.A. Programme. Main emphasis is in areas of Food Science, Baking Technology, Fruit and Vegetable Preservation Technology. Along with theory, skill is imparted through practicals.
