The Women’s Development Cell (WDC) of Shyama Prasad Mukherji College has been operational since 2018. The Cell, mandated under Section 3.2 (15) of the UGC Guidelines on Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal of Sexual Harassment (POSH), is dedicated to empowering women and laying foundations for gender equity. Its primary objective is to bolster the capabilities of female students while fostering an environment that promotes gender equality. The WDC is deeply committed to sensitizing both students and faculty to issues surrounding gender discrimination, women's rights, and empowerment. Collaborating with the Medical Committee, FCC, NSS, and HDEF, the Cell actively organizes awareness campaigns, workshops, dialogues, and lectures on topics such as domestic violence, mental health, self-defense training, and sexual harassment. Furthermore, the WDC aims to launch action research programs focused on women's empowerment, gender equity, mental health, and related areas.
